We’re Moving—New Location, Same Commitment!

We’re pleased to announce that the Center for Learning is relocating to Robinson Hall on the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) campus!

While our new office will be located on UMA property, the Center for Learning remains an integral part of the Catherine Cutler Institute at the University of Southern Maine (USM). Our mission and work continue unchanged—we’re simply moving into a new space that better supports our growing needs.

🗓️ Move Timeline

  • Last day in current location: Friday, June 6
  • Relocation period: June 9–11
  • Reopening in new location: Thursday, June 12

📢 Temporary Disruption to Phone Service

From June 7th to June 11th, CFL staff will not have access to office phones while IT transitions our phone system to the new location. During this time:

  • Our team will be working remotely
  • We will remain fully available via email
  • Normal phone communication will resume on Thursday, June 12

📬 Update Your Records
As part of our relocation, please discard any MHRT forms—physical or digital—that list our former mailing address at 12 E Chestnut Street, Augusta, ME. These forms should not be used after June 12th, as they will no longer reflect our correct location.

We are actively updating all digital forms and will work to distribute revised versions as soon as possible to ensure a smooth transition.

Beginning June 12, our new mailing address will be:

USM Center for Learning
University of Maine at Augusta
Robinson Hall
46 University Drive
Augusta, ME 04330

📞 No Change in Contact Info
There will be no changes to our phone number or email address. You can continue to reach us just as you always have.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to welcoming you to our new space and continuing to serve Maine’s behavioral health workforce with the same commitment, quality, and care.

MHRT I PROGRAM UPDATES

Change to MHRT I Requirements
After careful review, the Office of Behavioral Health has decided to remove CPR and First Aid as requirements for the MHRT I certification, effective June 1, 2025.

This change was made to eliminate redundancy. Current agency requirements under DHHS Licensing already require that staff complete and maintain up-to-date CPR and First Aid training. As a result, maintaining this requirement to be eligible for the MHRT I credential was determined to be duplicative and unnecessary.

Please direct any questions to the Office of Behavioral Health.

Short-Term Provisional MHRT I Certification
This limited-term Provisional certification is designed solely to support the individual’s return to the field and to facilitate the completion of necessary training requirements for reinstatement to Full MHRT I certification.
Expired Provisional MHRT I
Effective June 1, 2025, an individual who has already used the full 12-month allowance of a Provisional MHRT I certification and has been documented as having left the behavioral health workforce may be eligible for a one-time, three-month Provisional MHRT I certification. This Provisional certification may be granted only once within a twelve-month period.
Expired Full MHRT I
Effective June 1, 2025, an individual who previously held a Full MHRT I certification, has been documented as having left the behavioral health workforce, and whose certification has expired, may be eligible for a one-time, three-month Provisional MHRT I certification. This Provisional certification may be granted only once within a twelve-month period.
Eligibility Requirements
In order to apply for the one-time, three-month Provisional MHRT I certification, individuals must:

  • Provide proof of completion for the following training within the previous 12 months:
    • Maine’s Mental Health System 101
    • Skill Development for Work in Residential Settings
    • Introduction to Substance Use Disorders in the Direct Service Worker Trainings

Once the one-time, three-month Provisional MHRT I certification has been granted, individuals must complete the following:

  • MHSS (for expired provisional MHRT I only)
  • Update any lapsed behavioral intervention training

Agency Submission Requirements
Applications submitted by the employing agency must include:

  • A clear training plan, listing the specific courses and dates to be completed during the provisional period.
  • A Provisional MHRT I certificate for the requested three-month period, signed by both the agency representative and the employee.
  • Documentation verifying that the individual has been out of the behavioral health workforce for any amount of time.
